A new chapter is beginning at Protean eGov Technologies Limited, as a pioneer and market leader in building Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), we are happy to announce the appointment of Mr. Ajay Rajan as our new Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, effective 1st June, 2026.
Protean has been integral to India’s digital and financial infrastructure journey for more than three decades. By creating population scale platforms, we have worked on consistently to expand access, enabled inclusion and supported the delivery of essential services.
Mr. Rajan takes charge of Protean eGov Technologies Limited, at a time when the role of digital public infrastructure is evolving rapidly. Governments, institutions, and enterprises across the markets are actively looking for trusted and resilient digital ecosystems that can serve people at scale. Furthermore, the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence also presents opportunities to make these ecosystems more intelligent, responsive and accessible.
Under Mr. Rajan’s leadership, Protean will continue to strengthen its contribution to India’s evolving digital ecosystem, expanding into AI-enabled enterprise solutions, and scaling its DPI capabilities across international markets. This direction builds on Protean’s legacy of creating trusted platforms at scale, while positioning it for new avenues of impact and long-term growth.
Welcoming the appointment, Mr. V Easwaran, Whole-time Director, COO & Interim CEO of Protean eGov Technologies Ltd., emphasized that Protean’s core mission has always been to leverage technology for large-scale public impact. He noted that as the company steps into its next phase of growth and innovation, Mr. Ajay Rajan brings a rare combination of institutional leadership, deep understanding of digital ecosystem, and strong execution experience across banking and technology. Mr. Easwaran expressed strong belief that this new leadership will significantly reinforce Protean's role in driving the future of Digital Public Infrastructure both in India and beyond.
Upon taking charge, Mr. Ajay Rajan highlighted Protean’s legacy as a trusted institution that has successfully built digital and financial infrastructure for millions of people. Expressing privilege in in joining the organization at important stage of its journey, he noted that his immediate priority is to listen closely to teams, clients, and partners, and translating Protean’s strengths into customized, scalable and profitable solutions for the future while maintaining a focus on governance, disciplined execution, and a clear commitment to long-term value creation.
Mr. Rajan brings over three decades of leadership experience across banking, fintech and digital transformation. Before taking charge at Protean, he held senior leadership roles at YES Bank, where he served as Country Head – Transaction Banking, Government, Multinational & New Economy Business, IBU & Knowledge Units, and led key digital and DPI-linked initiatives. Prior to that, during his two-decade tenure at Deutsche Bank, he held several leadership roles, including as the Global Head of Fintech.
Mr. Rajan has also been associated with strategic industry and regulatory committees and has spoken at national and international forums on banking, fintech, innovation and digital transformation.
